Thankfully, this was not the case, as evident by Hellblade’s Accolades Trailer that used quotes from fans rather than reviews from media. When I heard that there would be heavy focus on mental health in a video game, I was highly doubtful due to previous portrayals of mental health in video games – most characters end up being perceived as crazy and as the villain, which is pretty upsetting. Now, we are living in a world were mental health is slowly becoming more and more discussed in everyday life and media, making it more acceptable and talked about. Hellblade: Seuna’s Sacrifice by Ninja Theory was an unexpected but welcome surprise. If you read My Top Picks of 2016 article last year, you’ll know I voted Overwatch as the best game of the year and really wanted to do it again, but it wasn’t until August, my mind changed completely. I was really hoping that I could list Tekken 7 as my game of the year as a huge fan girl, but honestly it’s probably one of the worst games of this year. Now that we face the end of 2017, it’s time for me to judge want my top favourites of TV, books, films, games and more.
